Im sure that you’ve heard a few times before that the drive between Jasper and Banff is one of the most breathtaking drives in the world. I never usually believe such things until I have witnessed them for myself and I have to say, everyone is 100% right. It is amazing. It must be a hard life for anyone who lives in this area and drives around there everyday! So carrying on from A Road Triping Adventure: Jasper we were up early to photograph the beautiful Patricia Lake which you can see in the previous post. Then we hit the road!
According to google maps it takes 3 hours to do the drive. It ended up taking us 9 hours because we stopped so many times to get out and take photos. We also stopped at the Columbia Icefield Glacier too which was one of the most amazing experiences ever! Im telling you, Canada has the goods! This blog is mainly going to be pictures because who needs words with scenery like this!
Sunwapta Falls
We stopped in at Sunwapta Falls which is a waterfall that is part of the Sunwapta River. It is accessible via a short drive off the Icefields Parkway. The falls have a drop of about 18.5 metres and is just another beautiful waterfall with my favourite colour water.
Columbia Icefield
Next stop was the Columbia Icefield Interperative Centre before boarding the gigantic Ice Explorer bus that takes you up onto the Athabasca glacier where you get the chance to walk around on ancient ice that is as think as a skyscraper. It was arctic like conditions that day with wind so cold and strong if I stopped walking it would push me sliding back down the glacier. It was so beautiful one of the best experiences of my life.
Back on the road again heading to Lake Louise. It was already getting into the late afternoon but the beauty just kept coming and we just kept stopping to take photos of it!
We didn’t quite make it to Lake Louise before sunset. Thankfully there was a beautiful lake right beside the road as it was approaching that time of day so we pulled over and waited for the sun to set.
After the sun had set we thought we had better make our way to Lake Loiuse before it got too late. Back in the car and eventually we made it to Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. All I can say about that place was WOW! But I will talk more about that in the next blog!
